Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez will speak at Futures 4 Kids Gala
Thursday September 17, 2009 - The seventh annual event is set for Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Gainesville Civic Center. A reception is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the dinner and program starting at 6:30 p.m.
The gala honors the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County’s Youth of the Year, Teryan Rucker, and the Helping Hands Award winner, the Medical Center Foundation.
Gonzalez, who is in his first year with the Falcons, is a 10-time Pro Bowl selection. He currently holds the NFL records for single season receptions (102) by a tight end, career touchdowns by a tight end (76), career receptions by a tight end (916), and reception yards by a tight end (10,940). Gonzalez was named the "2004 NFL Good Guy" by The Sporting News for his charitable efforts and formed the Tony Gonzalez Foundation in 1998 which supports the Shadow Buddies program, as well as the Boys and Girls Clubs.
“We are excited about having Tony as our keynote speaker,” Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County Chief Professional Officer Joe Ethier said. “He is a great example of athletes giving back to their community and is a strong role model. Tony’s support is just another great example of our long partnership with the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation. AFYF continues to be key partner in our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles for our youth.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County has a rich history of serving children for more than 55 years. It provides vital programs and services to more 360 members every day.
“Our clubs give all young people, but especially those who need us most, the opportunities and skills they need to become productive, caring and responsible adults,” Ethier said. “Our clubs address the most critical issues facing our youth by providing programming targeted toward the following priority outcomes: Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles.”
