BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF HALL COUNTY HIRES NEW DIRECTOR

GAINESVILLE– August 24, 2011, – Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County announce the hire of Steven Mickens as the new Chief Professional Officer. Mr. Mickens has over 20 years experience working with youth. He began his career as a direct care worker and quickly moved up the ladder in the youth development field due to his contributions and commitment to helping youth at risk.  He has thirteen years of experience as a senior administrator; five of which were with the Boys & Girls Clubs where he held positions as Executive Director, and Vice President of Operations.
Mr. Mickens has played a significant role in helping organizations shape the lives of young people. He has experience and training in “Positive Peer Culture” a unique treatment philosophy focused on empowering youth to take ownership of their lives.  His philosophy is simple “there is no such thing as a bad child, children are going to make bad choices but if we teach them, correct them and hold them accountable we can change lives.”  He stated “children are resilient and can overcome most hurdles that life throws their way with the proper adult leadership, support and guidance.”
In his current role as Chief Professional Officer, Steven Mickens will have overall responsibility for the organization including board development, strategic alliances, overseeing strategic planning and operation of the Club.  “Steven was selected for this position because of his organizational background and experience with board and staff development, stated Michele Piucci, president BGCHC. “His vision for the organization aligned perfectly with that of our board and key partners of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hall County.” “He has earned the respect of the staff and the kids and teens that benefit from our programs, and the fact that he was already a valued member of our team was a bonus.”
