Jerome Yarbrough Receives President's Volunteer Award

Tuesday August 25, 2009 - President George W. Bush created the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in 2003 to help recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making to our nation. The Council created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. Recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for service, encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation, and inspires others to make service a central part of their lives. The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard – measured by the number of hours of service over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime. Yarbrough received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for over 650 hours of volunteer service to the Boys & Girls Clubs and additional volunteer efforts. Jerome Yarbrough works tirelessly and has taken on many roles during his tenure with the Clubs. He most recently served as President of the organization’s Board of Directors but has also served on numerous committees such as Executive, Facilities, Human Resources, Program and Rubber Duck Derby committees. He has also played an active role as the liaison of the Hall County Clubs and the Boys & Girls Clubs Georgia Area Council. “Jerome grew up in the Clubs and has been a mainstay in our organization for over ten years. Both of his sons have been members of the Clubs since they were old enough to begin attending at age 6.” “We are deeply honored that he’s chosen our kids as one of the beneficiaries of his work and I know the mission of this organization is something he truly believes in,” stated Joe Ethier, chief professional officer of the Club.
