Cancer Prevention Cooking School

Wednesday December 03, 2008 - We would like to offer the school at the Boys and Girls Club on Wednesday, December 3 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The program will be presented in English and Spanish. The session will teach participants how to choose and prepare foods to reduce cancer risk.

The target group for this cooking school is women between the ages of 40-64 who haven’t had a mammogram or pap smear in the past 3 years. We are trying to reach high risk women who do not have health insurance or have a high deductible. The cooking school is an incentive to reach these women to see if they qualify for a FREE breast and/or cervical screening through the Health Department. We will offer door prizes including gift certificates from WalMart for women who qualify.

Through a grant from the American Cancer Society we will cover costs of food and program supplies. We would appreciate your help in recruiting participants and getting word out to the community.

The cooking school will feature several healthy recipes that the audience will be able to taste. Each person will receive a notebook with the recipes and handouts that will help them to start new healthy habits at home.
