TERYAN RUCKER NAMED 2010 YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Tuesday March 09, 2010 - Raised by his mom, a single-parent, Teryan's life took a tragic turn in 2009 when his mom died suddenly in his arms. The first person he called was the director of the Teen Center, Derrick Caldwell. "I knew that he would talk to me and help me with anything." Teryan said. "The staff at the Club has always been there for me as they are for everyone who walks through those doors. They have been guiding me and supporting me since I entered first grade." Teryan added, "words can't express the gratitude I have and how much it means to me to be a member of the Club."

Other finalists were Qymane Brawner, Manuel Alacron, Tyeisha Williams and Ebony Norman. The title is awarded to a local Boys and Girls Clubs member who not only contributes to his or her family and school but has overcome personal obstacles to rise to the top in the community.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Hall County offer support for hundreds of local children and teens. As Youth of the Year, Rucker will compete for the title at the state level for a $1,000 scholarship and the chance to advance to the regional and national competition
