“The Youth of the Year program is truly the cornerstone of what we do,” said Steven Mickens, CEO at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier. “It gives our young people the tools, confidence, and connections to pursue their dreams and become the next generation of leaders. As the local Youth of the Year winner, Jaemy will advance to the Georgia State Youth of the Year competition in February, where she will compete against more than 30 other local club winners from across the state. The state winner will receive a $7,500 scholarship and move on to the regional competition, which offers a $20,000 scholarship. Regional winners then compete nationally for the title of National Youth of the Year, which includes a $50,000 scholarship and a new car, awarded to support higher education and career goals. Jaemy, who has been an active Boys & Girls Club member for the past few years, has demonstrated remarkable growth, leadership, and dedication.”

Reflecting on her experience, Jaemy Quito-Cruz shared, “Being 17 and still wanting to come to the Boys & Girls Club is pretty cool. It’s where I can grow, connect, and be surrounded by young people who are striving to become successful future leaders.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier is proud to support Jaemy as she represents the organization and community at the state level and beyond.
