Nakia – Youth of the Year Candidate
Nakia is a 15-year-old 10th grader from Gainesville, Georgia. She chose to participate in the Youth of the Year competition because she wants the opportunity to help others and share her story.
Friends and family would describe Nakia as outgoing, funny, and kind. She is deeply passionate about the people she loves, especially her family and friends. At school, Nakia is active in cheerleading and enjoys spending her free time with friends. Her favorite subjects are health and science, since it allows her to learn more about helping people—a value she truly lives by.
One of Nakia’s biggest goals is to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout high school; a milestone she has set her sights on as part of her journey toward personal growth and achievement. While she is still exploring career possibilities, Nakia is excited to see where her passions will lead.
Her favorite music artist is Barney Blue, and she enjoys watching All American in her downtime. Chick-fil-A is her go-to snack, and if given the chance to travel, she would love to return to Chicago. Nakia is also proud of the lesson she recently embraced: that being herself matters most—not to others, but to herself.
