Messiah G. – Youth of the Year Candidate
Messiah is a 13-year-old ninth grader from Buffalo, New York, with big dreams and a bright future. Known by his friends and family as helpful, smart, and loving, Messiah is passionate about learning and exploring the world around him. Growing up with seven siblings has shaped his sense of responsibility and compassion, qualities that shine through in everything he does. His ultimate goal is to become a marine biologist and one day buy his mom the house she has always wanted.
Inspired by his sister, Messiah has set his sights on attending college in San Diego, where he recently discovered a strong marine biology program. At school, he is involved in track and DECA, and his favorite subjects include English, Literature, and the Arts, where he gets to explore his love for reading and creativity.
Messiah decided to enter the Youth of the Year competition after being encouraged by a staff director, and he embraced the opportunity without hesitation. He hopes his journey inspires others to stay determined, reminding teens that, “if you give up, you won’t know what you are capable of.”
When he’s not studying or training, Messiah enjoys sleeping in, listening to music by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, and indulging in his go-to snack—a bag of Cheeto Puffs. He also loves watching 2 Broke Girls and his favorite movie, 4 Brothers. If given the chance to travel anywhere, he would choose Tokyo, drawn to its anime culture, exciting sites, and vibrant traditions.
Messiah’s favorite quote is, “Just because there are clouds, it doesn’t mean the sun ain’t there.” With his determination, heart, and vision for the future, Messiah is committed to shining bright no matter the obstacles.
